Update III

Thank you to all my followers who have waited patiently for me to post again and to get back to posting on a regular schedule. I apologize for the long delay, I have been both on the road and at home, but life got in the way for a while.

I’m back on a regular schedule, and have a big back log of hotel reviews to share with you all (including some from readers!). Remember, you can help me and other bedwetting travellers out by sharing a review of your most recent hotel visit. It helps me a lot if you can put it into my regular form, found here. But I’m happy to get anything. I can only stay in so many place, but I would very much like to review as many places as possible in order to help people out.

As far as my posting schedule goes, my plan is to post once every two weeks, with the occasional update in between. As I said, I’ve got a lot of reviews to post, but I am also working on posts exploring:

If you have any personal anecdote, opinions, experiences or translations to share with these endeavors, it would be much appreciated. As always, you can e-mail them to  bedwettingtraveller@gmail.com.

Thanks for reading,

Details of Stay and Recommendation:

I have stayed at the Carey Center a couple of times when visiting Vancouver (which I do often). I have always had a good experience, and the people at the front desk are friendly (though there is a bit of a language barrier, so you need to explain things very carefully over the phone). The B&B is right on the UBC campus, so if you have business there it is incredibly practical as you are in walking distance to everything. There is also a breakfast deal and cheap parking.

It is a religious college, which can creep people out, but I was very surprised apart from all the god stuff on their website and the obvious leaflets and posters here and there around the place, there was no mention of religion. Unlike hotels, there wasn’t even a bible in the rooms. I was a little surprised about this, though I suppose that given that it is a religious college, most people who would want a bible in their room would bring their own (and might take exception to the usual Gideon’s translation…). The breakfast is also nice, it’s a serve yourself kinda deal with lovely poached eggs.

The first time I booked, I called in advance and had to explain carefully what I needed (the usual mattress cover), and after a little explaining (I talked fast as I was nervous and the lady on the other line had a strong accent, everything was sorted out. Checking in I had a flutter, as I was with a group of colleagues. I jockeyed to get to the desk with some privacy, and identified myself. I was very nervous at this point, and kept thinking that the lady at the check in would hold up the key cards and ask “who wanted the room with the waterproof sheets?” but she was incredibly discreet. She handed out the cards in a seemingly random way, but when she got to me she quietly and privately said “this is the one with the special request” and passed me the card.

Once in my room, and after my heart rate had calmed down a little, I check out the bed. They are single beds, and mine had a very plastic mattress cover one it. Not one of those more modern ones with fabric quilting on the top, but rather a simple thin plastic sheet, like the kind that was on my bed growing up. It was very crinkly and pretty obvious but it got the job done.

I stayed for two nights and the mattress cover was not needed, as I was good and dry the second night, and my protection did its job on night one.

I would definitely recommend the Carey Centre, it’s nothing fancy, but it’s inexpensive and very well located if you are doing things at UBC. I had a good experience and they were ready to accommodate any guests who might just happen to wet the bed.
