This was submitted by a reader, thank you very much reader, and good luck with your trip. I am looking forward to reading your final review.
I know this isn’t your usual format, but I thought your readers might find this helpful, so here goes.
Our family will be visiting Johannesburg, South Africa, in the New Year. We are all excited to go on safari, visit the southern hemisphere for the first time, and be some place warm. I’m particularly excited about the wine.
I’ve wet the bed my whole life, and have a very understanding husband. I also have three children, all of whom wet the bed growing up. My eldest and youngest daughters (12 and 17 respectively) still wet the bed with varying degrees of frequency. What they say about genetics and bed wetting is true.
Given the particular needs of our family, I decided to contact a number of hotels before picking one.
I spent some time looking over different options online, and narrowed the decision down to 8 hotels. I then emailed each one asking whether or not they had waterproof mattress covers for guests.
“One of the guests wets the bed. Do you have any waterproof mattress covers or something similar for guests?”
The response I got was mixed, and certainly helped us pick out where we ended up staying. Here are the results I got. I thought it would be unfair to give the hotels that did not respond a ranking on the Enuresis Friendly Rating System, as for all I know they have great accommodations for guest who wet the bed, just poor customer service when it comes to answering emails. So I’ve given these a zero. A couple of the hotels were quick to reply and happy to help. Since our family has not had the chance to actually visit the hotels, I didn’t think it would be accurate to award them a perfect 5. So I’ve awarded these hotels a 4.5 and will do a full review of whatever hotel we end up staying at.

Prompt | I received a very prompt reply from a manager who directed their staff to answer my query. Shortly after that I received a reply that informed me that:
“We do not have waterproof mattress covers, you are welcome to bring your own our beds are super King size beds and our house keeping team will make the bed for you.” |

Prompt | This hotel got back to me right away, and informed me that they did have waterproof sheets. Because my email was vague, they even sought clarification and asked if it would be for a crib or bed. | 4.5 |
Genesis All suite

Prompt | This hotel also got back to me right away. They first asked if it was for “an adult or kid?” And when I told them it was for an adult, they confirmed that they did indeed have waterproof sheets. I’m not quite sure why they asked for clarification if they have sheets for both sized beds, I can only image they were being attentive, which I appreciate. | 4.5 |
Palm Continental

Prompt | This hotel got back to me right away, but informed me that:
“Unfortunately we do not have water proof mattress protectors.” |

We ended up booking with the Crown Plaza, mostly because it seemed to be better located (closer to the Botanical Gardens and transit options). Once we get back from our trip, I’ll send in our final verdict on this hotel.
