Details of Stay and Recommendation:

Please note that this review was submitted by a reader of the blog, and I am paraphrasing their experience.

The reader had a bad experience with this hotel. They reached out to the hotel prior to their visit, but the hotel was unable to accommodate their request for waterproof mattress protection. The reader was required to take their own precautions, and does not recommend this hotel to other travellers with enuresis.

Chain and Loyalty Program?:

The Code, Benefits Program. But seriously, do I need another random benefits program for a hotel chain I will never likely visit, or visit once? Life is too short.

Details of Stay and Recommendation:

First of all, as far as hotels go, this is generally a very nice one, one of the best in Kingston, and in walking or cab distance of basically everything there is to do in Kingston. The hotel is right on the water with lovely views from most of the rooms. I happened to visit during the winter, and despite the rather horrid snowy weather, the place had a nice cozy feel to it. The place is also well decorated and has a good restaurant/food options.

Despite these features recommending this hotel, it was unfortunately not very accommodating for guests who might be worried about wetting the bed. Because the booking was made well in advance, I contacted the hotel by email, and received a prompt reply. Unfortunately, the reply to my question about whether the hotel had waterproof mattress covers was in the negative. With the curt message that “I spoke with housekeeping this morning and unfortunately we do not have any waterproof mattress covers. If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.”

One of the benefits of contacting the hotel in advance is that you have a better idea of what to expect and can plan accordingly. If you know the mattress will be protected, you may be able to bring a smaller suitcase and avoid bringing bed pads. If, on the other hand, you know the mattress will not be protected, you may bring additional bed pads, or even more absorbent (but bulkier) protective clothing.

In the end, the precautions I took were unnecessary, as I enjoyed three dry nights while staying at this hotel. I would still recommend to the management that they take steps to accommodate all of their guests and because they were not proactive after my request, I have given this hotel a 2.
