Details of Stay and Recommendation:

It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to post a review of my own. I had a long period with limited travel, but lately I’ve been back on the road. It took some adjusting, I can tell you that much. I actually went back and read through a few of my old posts to help buoy my confidence.

Fortunately, my experience with this hotel was excellent. I emailed them before I visited, and the Front Desk got back to me within a day with a quick and positive response – letting me know that they had waterproof mattress covers available and they offered to help out any way they could.

I arrived after a red eye flight and the room was all ready with the cover in place, without my having to make any reminders or ask. While the hotel was excellent, my general travel experience was rough – lots of delays and sitting around the airport, and did I mention it was a red eye flight?

I was absolutely exhausted by the time I arrived in my room. It was mid-morning at this point and in my sleep addled state I decided to briefly rest on the bed before getting unpacked and settled in.

About three hours later a noise in the hallway woke me up. I was laying on top of the bedspread, still fully clothed, completely soaked. My trousers and underwear were sodden, and there was a sizable wet spot that ran through the bedspread, blanket, and all the rest of the bedding. Fortunately, as I mentioned, there was a mattress cover protecting the mattress, so the damage stopped there. Again, I was very pleased that they had just gone ahead and done this.

I rinsed out my bottoms in the bathtub and left them out to dry. I unpacked and generally settled in. I was staying at the hotel for a few of nights, so I got comfortable. After all of this, I called up the front desk and asked them if they could replace my bedding while I was out for a late lunch. The helpful man on the phone asked me if there were any problems with the bedding, and somewhat taken aback I stammered something like “No, it just got wet” and left it at that. Fortunately there were no follow up questions.

When I got back that afternoon all of the bedding had been replaced, and the housekeeping staff had been thoughtful enough to leave out an additional set of sheets and towels. They had also helpfully turned down the bed, perhaps a slight reminder that you should do this before going to sleep.

The rest of my visit was uneventful, the protection I was careful to wear on subsequent nights did its job and kept the sheets dry. I think it is perhaps a testament to the fact that I haven’t travelled much in the past while, as I was wet three nights in a row. I’m glad I brought extra protection to wear, as this isn’t common for me.

At a decent cost and good location, I’ll try to book here whenever I’m travelling through DC in the future.
