I had no choice for which hotel I would’ve staying at for this business trip so I called ahead to check if they had waterproof mattress covers and plan accordingly. A lady picked up and told me that they didn’t and offered no alternative so I laid down 3 goodnites bedmats and hoped for the best. I had one rather significant leak but thankfully it didn’t get past the bedmat. Given their lack of waterproof mattress covers, this hotel gets an enuresis friendly rating of a 2.

Blog Hiatus

Dear readers,

Thank you to those who emailed in positive feedback and reviews over the past couple of years. I very much appreciate the kind words and help in making this blog happen. And thanks for reading my little blog.

My apologies for taking a long break from the blog – life got in the way at first, and then COVID grounded me. As I wasn’t travelling, I kind of let things slide on the blog front.

However, I do have a bit of a backlog of reviews kind readers have sent in, so I will work on posting these over the next few months.

I am still not travelling as a result of the pandemic, and I’m sure many of you are in the same boat. However, as things open up, I do plan on hitting the road, and will hopefully have more reviews and tips for folks. I’m planning a few trips and have already started emailing hotels to check on their accommodations, so I’m hoping to post some more city reviews in the near future.

If you are out there travelling do please send me any hotel reviews to help keep things running.

Until then, stay safe!

I had an overnight layover in Denver and this is the hotel my company booked. I called to see if they had waterproof mattress covers but unfortunately they did not and offered no alternatives. My protection did its job but I would not recommend this hotel for bedwetters due to lack of waterproof mattress protectors.

I was due to travel to Dortmund where not going was not an option, so had to book a hotel but preferably one that were able to have a waterproof mattress protector fitted. I’d emailed quite a few hotels with all replying that they weren’t able to help, with this hotel being the only one that didn’t respond. As hotels were booking up quickly due to a convention that week I needed to book something so went with this hotel requesting in the booking section if a waterproof protector could be fitted, and that I had emailed previously but hadn’t received a response. I then had a reply apologizing for not replying to my original email and not sure why it was missed, and that it was not a problem in that they would have a waterproof protector fitted to the bed before I arrived. The anxiety for the trip disappeared immediately.

When I arrived to check in nothing was mentioned about the protector, but decided I’ll check the bed myself when I got to the room and then call down if necessary. When I got to the room they had arranged two single beds that were pushed together with both fitted with the waterproof protectors (I’m assuming they only had single bed protectors so improvised like this). The bedding layers were: mattress, waterproof pad with plastic protector on top, sheet. The beds were comfortable, I was there for four nights, and although I had the normal issues I have overnight the protection I was wearing held and didn’t require any changes in bedding.

I had an overnight layover in Seattle and my company booked this hotel. I called ahead to see if they had waterproof mattress covers. The man on the line said he would check and after a brief hold simply told me, “No we do not.” No other solution was offered.

I threw down some Goodnites Bed Mats. I had a pretty significant leak, it got all over my shirt and down to my feet but it didn’t get past the bedmats (I put down 4 because this is a rather expensive hotel and I didn’t want to risk having to pay for mattress cleaning).

The front desk said the wet sheets weren’t a problem but I’d have been in some pretty deep shit If it weren’t for my over cautiousness with the bed mats.

Would not stay again for that reason.

Finally a review of my own, I have been on the road lately, but I’ve not had the chance to write up any reviews. Look for more coming soon. This hotel was booked for me through work, and while it is a great hotel, as far as reviews, rating, and other quality measures go, it wasn’t particularly accommodating for visitors who happen to wet the bed.

After the hotel was booked, I emailed the reservation agent to ask about mattress covers. I received a prompt reply that “unfortunately we do not have any of our own waterproof mattress covers however you are more than welcome to bring your own.” I did just that and brought a pack of Goodnites bedmats (at a one mat for every 0.75 nights ratio).

In addition to my regular night protection (which these days have been Molicares), I also brought along a couple of more heavy-duty diapers for the first few nights. Given that I was travelling a very long distance and was expecting to be very jet lagged, and that my wetting tends to be worse the first few nights in a new place as well as when I’m badly jet lagged, I thought this was a good precaution.

I’m glad that I did. The first few nights, once I got to sleep, I was glad that I had brought the more serious protection. The first, night my heavy-duty protection did not leak, so I left the rumpled but still re-usable bed pad stuck to the sheets in the morning for re-use. I was disappointed to find upon returning to the room that housekeeping had removed the mat. The next morning, I left a note saying “please leave on” on top of the new and also dry pad. When I got back to the room the pad was still there, and a spare pair of sheets and a mattress topper (not the waterproof kind), were left folded on the chair.

I stayed at the hotel for 12 days, and I ended up going through all of the diapers that I had brought, with the exception to the pair I saved for the flight home (where I intended to sleep, but crying babies made this an intermittent affair). The last night I went without protection and slept directly on my last sleep mat. Unfortunately, I had to pack a pair of rather wet pyjama bottoms and under in a sealed bag in my checked luggage.

Overall not particularly accommodating  but otherwise a very decent hotel.

This is another review submitted by a reader. I can’t thank you all enough for first of all taking the time to read my blog, but also to submit reviews of your own. I’m sorry that I’ve not had the chance to update the map in a while, I’ll get to it soon. I’ve edited this post a little for clarity, my thanks to the author.

I recently found your blog. Thank you. I wanted to share a review of a place I stayed at a little while ago. I was travelling with a friend on a short trip to Port Renfrew. I was very nervous. I didn’t book the rooms and last minute my friend told me that they booked a double room. They asked me if it was ok to share. It was probably too late to change the reservation and I too shy to like insist on two rooms. We’ve been friends for a while and we share a lot of things, but they don’t know about my wetting issues.

I brought protection and it usually does the trick of keeping everything dry, but I was nervous that my friend might notice. We arrived and I thought that maybe I could like call the front desk when my friend was out of the room and ask them to add a mattress cover when we went out to dinner. I almost did when my friend took a shower, but I was scared they might overhear me, and I was doubly scared to ask the front desk.

So I chickened out. But I check the bed while my friend was in the shower and I was really surprised (and happy) when I found that they had the exact same mattress cover on them that I use at home (a really good one). So I guess the lesson is that sometimes you just get lucky. I snapped a picture!

The hotel was really nice. The front desk guy was super friendly (and cute). Definitely a great place to stay.

We were there for three nights. I was like a bed wetting ninja. My protection didn’t leak, my friend never found out, and it was a great trip!

I stayed here for 3 nights for work related event at this hotel. I called ahead to see if they had waterproof mattress covers. A man picked up then transferred me to housekeeping. The lady from housekeeping told me that, “As far as I know we don’t have waterproof mattress covers, you can bring your own if you’d like.” I threw down some Goodnites Bed Mats.

I only leaked on one night and it didn’t get past the bed mats. I had to make the humiliating, “walk of shame,” to the front desk at 3am to ask for new sheets. Housekeeping put them on my bed, but having physical proof you wet the bed was very humiliating. The other 2 nights my protection did its job. Would not stay there again if I had a choice.

I’m a Houstonian who often goes to Galveston for business. I called ahead to see if they had waterproof mattress covers. A lady answered and told me she thinks they do and transferred me to housekeeping to confirm. I was a little excited because waterproof mattress covers are a rarity in hotels. A lady picked up from housekeeping and tells me that there are mattress protectors but they aren’t waterproof. They offered no alternative solution which was disappointing. My protection did its job but I would not recommend this hotel for bedwetters.

Bedwetting and Hot Summer Nights – Part 3

A lovely reader submitted these additional tips for keeping cool on hot summer nights, thanks for sharing!  This builds on the previous two posts on this topic: Part 1 + Part 2.

Just read your article on hot summer nights and protection.  Maybe I have grown accustomed to it during the years, but these are my strategies:

  • I normally sleep without a mattress cover, I have tried it but hated it.  The leakage of my diapers is quite minimal, so I usually dare to risk this. However if I feel a bad spell is coming I wear diapers covers during winter time, in the summer time I resort to bed mats (Goodnites Bed Mats or something similar) to be absolutely safe.
  • Sleepwear, in winter I normally cover up my diapers. In summer I just sleep in my diaper.  The rare occasion when I have to share a hotel room e.g. , I do wear baseball pants on top.
  • Choice of diapers: based on my needs I pick a night diaper that is suitable.  Plastic backed diapers are more reliable, but during summer I only go for cloth backed material. Tena Slip Ultima is (here in Europe) my preferred choice and has a good quality breathable material.

With this strategy, I find the heat in the summer period survivable without compromises.

Hope this helps and gives you some more tips to share with your readers.
